Jackie's Jottings

The AGM at Scarborough

I'm truly sorry not to have been able to attend the AGM this year - only the second one I've missed since I joined the Loners in 1995. It sounds as if some very interesting decisions were taken after the discussions at the Forum - so look forward to a new name, a new website, changes to the Newsletters and to the Mailchimp emails, and so on.

I'm happy to have handed over the resposibility of being Treasurer to Dorothy Laver, who as an accountant is infinitely better qualified for the role than I was and who has audited our accounts for the last few years. Being Treasurer, and before that Newsletter Editor, I've enjoyed being busy and involved and I've made somewonderful friends from all over the country. I am quite overwhelmed by the generous leaving gift and the messages from friends far and wide. I look forward to seeing some of you in the not too distant future and wish you all a happy 2017 season. Jackie Roberts

I thought members might like to know what we will be doing at Rosedale. Possibly some members haven’t been to Rosedale before or even may not have a clue where it is.

These are some of the activities which I suggest we consider:-

A walk in the valley of Rosedale
A walk in the great canyon named The Hole of Horcum
A visit to Goathland, named Aidensfield in the TV programme Heartbeat
A walk from Goathland to Mallyan Spout and the Roman road known as Wade’s Causeway
A walk visiting Ralph’s Cross, the logo of the North York Moors National Park and Fat Betty also known as White Cross
A stroll at Beck Hole and a visit to Birch Hall Inn and one of the smallest bars in England
An Evening meal at the Lion Inn, scenically placed on Blakey Ridge
A day on the North York Moors Railway with the possible steam train to Whitby
Not to be missed a walk in Farndale to see the miles of daffodils

The problem is we only have six days and there is so much to do…………..never mind. There’s always 2018 for a return visit.
This is ideal for those who like walking, good food, excellent pubs and being in the heart of fantastic scenery.

Derrick Price writes: Hi Jackie. Rosemary Tear and I have booked into Broadway as Warwick is full (this is the meet starting on Sunday 19th March). If any other Loners would like to join us there after Moreton we would be very pleased to welcome them there.
[Jan French is hosting both these meets - please liaise with her as well as with Derrick or Rosemary]

Gillian Gape writes:
Hi Jackie
I now have six motorhomers interested in French tour . There is also one caravanner who got in touch (Mike Stephenson) but his plans for a tour are quite different from what motor homers would want to do.
A few motor homers are meeting at Chatsworth CC Feb 19th to 22nd for an initial chat. Not all those interested can come, but I'll try another link up maybe in March.
Best wishes Gillian
[Anyone interested in a caravan trip should get in touch with Mike]

February and March Lunches

Only two months of lunches left. If you are a new Loner and haven't yet been to a winter lunch, it would be a good idea to venture out before the season starts. Details are in the Newsletters. Please contact the Newsletter Editor or any member of the Committee is you haven't got the details.
